Paul Calvert Black - Singer Songwriter"Passionate, intellectual acoustic" as well as "inspirational themes" are what some have said about the songwriting of Paul Black. This singer/songwriter draws listeners into his story line and captures their heart, soul and attention to get the message of his song across. His writing style and ability has been compared to the legendary Kris Kristofferson. Paul uses his natural comfort on stage and his talent as a performer and vocalist to leave the audience asking for more.

Many of the songs that Paul writes are spiritual in nature, with heavy Christian overtones. His topics vary from addressing social responsibility, spiritual neglect, a revival of the human spirit and enhanced faith. As a devout member of The Church Of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Paul expresses his love for Heavenly Father, his faith in Jesus Christ, family values and togetherness, and the Eternal plan of salvation to communicate God's love for us all.

"What I find most fascinating about Black's music is his ability to write and perform rather eclectic types of music, and pulls them all off with style. One song sounds a little bit country, the other a little bit rock-and-roll, and many fall in between. But there are a few of Black's songs that are in a category all by themselves, and those are the best."

Paul's first album release, Eclecticity is in development right now and should be ready near the end of May 2009. As songs are mastered, we will be putting them in our download section so that you may enjoy them. In addition, Paul is working on an album for children with life-threatening illnesses, to be released in the winter of 2009.

A native of the suburbs of Baltimore, Maryland, Paul studied music and theater at U.M.B.C. (University of Maryland, Baltimore County) where he performed in numerous musicals and plays. He was even fortunate enough to have performed at the Kennedy Center with NBC soap star Crystal Chappell and film actor/director Robert Tyree (Crybaby).

Although he excelled in the theater, his real passion was for music, and in 1991 began songwriting. Since then he has written dozens of songs covering a variety of topics and styles. For a time he took a break from music to concentrate on his family, and is happily married and has three beautiful children.

Paul Black - Singer SongwriterIn November 2003, a tragic but awakening event took place when his youngest child, Nicholas was diagnosed with cancer. Through aggressive treatment by the world's most outstanding physicians, Nicholas was brought into N.E.D. (No Evidence of Disease), where he remains. But this single event sparked a fire under Paul and gave his life, and his music new meaning and purpose. He donates 30% of every dollar he makes from his  performances and merchandise sales to pediatric cancer foundations in hopes that his contribution will help to heal those afflicted with the disease and to help researchers find a cure.

Paul's motto for 2009 and the remainder of his career is that he "Will Sing 4 A Cure" of pediatric cancers, specifically Neuroblastoma, that Kid's CancerVive

For this year, Paul plans a schedule of at least 100 shows at various venues in and around North and South Carolina, Virginia and Tennessee. You will see him primarily at churches but also at festivals, coffeehouses, colleges and clubs. You can see Paul's upcoming schedule here.

Paul also works and has performed with other musicians in the area, and would like to acknowledge their hard work and dedication to their craft.
